Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli/Dj Hi-tek) got together for a classic performance inside the low-key Hotspot_Rehab, located in the Lower East Side section of Manhattan.

It was episode # 7 for the monthly nightlife event "In The Mood"_ Hosted by Dedan Kasimu

Female Dj's Eque & She-Rock set the tone for the ladies, and with Dj Kweli (when he wasnt on stage) and guest Dj Twilight Tone spinning the best in Hip Hop, R&B, House and old school hits, there wasnt a reason to not have attended this event.

We had the chance to celebrate the 30th birthday of Ron, co-founder and designer for brand label Leroy Jenkins Limited. And for an artistic twist, there was live body art painting carried out by Make-Up artist_Geeta Khanna.

2.Where are you from/ Where do you currently live?:
Queens Ny, baby!

3. Where did/do you go to school and your major?:
To be honest, my schooling came from real life endeavors. Majoring in street smarts with the ability to flip the script on a professional and business note, and how to make the best out of this confusion(life), but without the confusion tho.

Sorry,but I wont be sucked into the misconception of this world we live in.

4. What is your Grind?:
Photographer.

Kicksclusive Magazine,Writers Block (Photographer), and Freelancer. I also do events randomly, like "ILL Party Wednesdays" "In The Mood" and other events that seek young, hip photographers.

5. How did you get into what your doing now?:
Ive been shooting for a while now, but recently decided to go forward with the professional aspects of it. It all started with the disposable cameras. I wouldn't dare waste an exposure if thru my lens didn't look correct. And here i am!

6. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?:
As a child, I was soo animated and wanted to be something different everyday. For instance, if I discovered a new dance move, i wanted to be a choreographer/dancer of some sort. Or if I learned how to cook something, now i wanted to be a chef.
I see it like this,as long as i walk this earth, theres gotta be more than just this. So i get my hands on every and anything, and deliver it.

7. What are some contributing factors that shaped the life you live now?:
The harsh reality that still, society has an issue with the success of people of color, and while discrimination still holds its title at the gate, theres no other way around it except to make my mark, handle my part as a young black female, and create that path for our growing youth, who are unbeknownst to the world they have yet to enter.

8. Any specific people that mentored or helped guide you to your current path?:
God Almighty. That force is empowering. It makes me a warrior everyday. My armor is my knowledge and it has created me in every way.

9. What motivates you?:
The unknown motivates me. In a sense that I oughta educate myself on everything it seems like. Therefore, I'll never be in the dark, or in a room with the presence of a stranger.

10. Your favorite author and why?:
My favorite author is reality. Because it never lies. Non-Fiction

11. What are 3 goals you want to achieve within the next year?:
1.Getting my mind 100 percent right. Right now its at about 77 percent. I have 23 percent to go! 2. Getting more involved/active (general statement)
3. Making it through the year all together, as well as productively

12. One person that continuously inspires you and why?:
My parents. They grind soo hard. They allow me to see the fruits of their labor, and what "putting in that work" really means, and what it takes to become something out of nothing. That means alot to me.

What defines your personality outside and inside. People try too hard to look good; a good style of dress can be a t-shirt jeans and sneakers, but it’s just how you present yourself.

You recently returned from a trip to London. How does the streetwear scene differ from that in New York City?
Well, London has a cool style; they know to dress. I also went to Paris and Amsterdam and Parisians’ are hot so their style will never compare to New York, but as for London you can see the similarities in style, but they’re are better clothes out there so you can always look good.

What attracts you to streetwear culture?
I like individual style, seeing how other people put together their pieces.

Do you follow fads?
Um, not really but if I see a trend or new style of clothes Il’l try it out but add my twist to it so I can make it my own.

What song best represents your outfit?
Ha, ah I love music but the song that best describes that outfit would be between The Strokes “Soma” and Maximo Park “Limassol“.

I was feeling that vibe…wait maybe The Arctic Monkeys and that can be any song by them…damn and any The Strokes song…

Embraced in the U.K. nudity is a non controversial issue, MONEY a U.K. based brand brings part of their culture stateside in the form of the already popularized camouflage print. In its cheeky nature pornoflage, a concept that takes images of nude women and uses them in an ingenious graphic print that embeds the images in the camo is sure to turn heads and strike conversation.

Define your style.
Funky, sassy, sophisticated, and down right gutsy. You ever see someone wear red pumps in the snow? Suede boots in the snow?

The older women in my life heavily influence my style. My mentors have taught me so much about walking into a room, making my clothing work for me. And I just can’t complain about the Prada, JP Tod’s, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Flavi Olivera and countless other vintage gems bestowed upon me from real women — real life trendsetters.

Do you draw any inspiration from your Cape Verdean upbringing?
Cape Verdean fashion is very much inspired by American culture. People like to keep up with Americans. However, the traditional dress is very original, tropical, and inspired by Portuguese and African culture. Brazil also shares similar taste in style because of European influences. Remember, Brazil was also colonized by the Portuguese so we have a lot of similar cultural traits.

While we’re trying to keep up with Western fashion, at the same time there’s always a touch of Cape Verde in the way we dress. Whether it’s jewelry or a wearing a traditional wrap around the waist.

Just being Cape Verdean is individuality. We fight to be recognized. I mean, we get excited to see our country on the map. With that passion and our mix of cultures, it undoubtedly influences how we carry ourselves.

What song would you say best describe your outfit?
Prince, “Do Me Baby.” No! Kelis, “Handful“:

“Catch me flossin’ with my work ‘em pumps on, work ‘em dress, work ‘em some lipstick on. Your spoon ain’t ready for this honey comb.”

Are there any similarities between writing and composing a good outfit?
With both, I put a lot of focus into how I feel. I’ll only write about something if I feel it. I only wear something if I feel it.

With my blog, I make every attempt to ensure that it’s a true reflection of who I am. Everything I write and put out there for people is a reflection of me — just as with what I wear.

When I walk out of the house, from my shoes to my top, it’s a reflection of the young woman that I am. There’s nothing like wearing clothes and feeling like “this is so me.” It’s even better when your friends read your writing and go “that’s so you.” In short, the process is staying true to oneself.

What current fashion trends you feel should of died yesterday?
What are those scarves that everyone’s wearing? Are they triangles? Those Kanye West scarves. They should just die.

Forecast: In the next six months, everyone is going to be wearing…
Whatever celebrities are dressed in — as always. Unfortunately.

What separates you from the rest?
Everyone has dreams, successes, a blog or a job. But I’m Shauna Barbosa. And that’s always more than enough.

Queen Pen "Battered"

May 19, 2008 -- Queen Pen, a tough-talking rapper and advocate for domestic violence victims, is in fear for her life as police hunt her ex-boyfriend, who allegedly pummeled her in front of their children and broke her Grammy Award in a fit of blind rage.

Pen, 35, said she was attacked May 9 after an argument, during which her ex - Kendall Wicker, 29 - trashed her East Flatbush apartment, put a brick through her windshield and threatened to kill her.

The outburst came three months after Pen told police that Wicker, who is the father of two of the rapper's five children, punched her in the face so hard during a dispute that she needed oral surgery to secure teeth knocked loose by the blow.

A police report of the incident makes no mention of a physical assault and neither Pen nor police have seen Wicker since the latest incident.
